Music in Exile seeks to document the songs and stories of people across the world who have been displaced. We hope to preserve a part of cultures endangered by war, sectarian violence, and regional instability. Through field recordings, profiles, photographs, and video, we also aspire to humanize refugees as the worst humanitarian crisis since World War Two unfolds.
Our first trip, in October 2016, was to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, where more than 1.8 million Syrians and Iraqis have found refuge. Our future trips will be to other countries in the Middle East and beyond.
